Mathews County Historical Society

The Mathews County Historical Society presents Suzanne Hood, curator of ceramics and glass at Colonial Williamsburg, she will speak on Tuesday, April 29th at 7:00 P.M. at Kingston Parish Hall, Main Street, Mathews Courthouse. Her program “Mythical Beasts, Lotus Blossoms, and Bamboo: Examining the evidence for Chinese porcelain in Virginia” will place Chinese porcelain in eighteenth-century Virginia. She will also discuss historical ceramics found in Mathews County and Virginia from the Jamestown period through the early 19th century. Members of the audience are asked to bring to the lecture ceramics they have found in MathewsCounty to be identified and evaluated by Hood and a panel of archaeologists.
